Alternative Reviews

1: Sevendust - Alpha (7/10)
Atlanta, Georgia based Sevendust released their seventh studio album Alpha in early 2007. Based on the success of their breakout single 'Driven,' and their relentless touring schedule, Alpha burned its way up the charts.

2: Sixx: A.M. - The Heroin Diaries(7.75/10)
Nikki Sixx, the driving force behind Mötley Crüe lyrically, shares with the world the tale of his redemption in the book "The Heroin Diaries," to which this album provides the musical score.

3: Breaking Benjamin "Phobia" (6.3/10)
In late 2000, guitarist Aaron Fink and bassist Mark James Klepaski made a surprising and unexpected decision: they left Lifer, an alternative metal band that was signed to Universal and was gaining commercial acceptance. Fink and Klepaski departed Lifer (which was originally called Strangers with Candy) so that they could join forces with singer Ben Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel and form Breaking Benjamin. 4: Godsmack - Good Times, Bad Times... Ten Years of Godsmack (7.75/10)
Alt rock heavyweights Godsmack have released their greatest hits album after only 4 studio albums. Many suspect a crass grab for cash, however everybody agrees that the album doesn't disappoint.

5: The Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist (6.25/10)
A zeitgeist is defined as: the spirit of the time; general trend of thought or feeling characteristic of a particular period of time. Has the new Smashing Pumpkins album managed to find the pulse of the times, or just flatline?

6: Kid Rock - Rock 'n' Roll Jesus (5.75/10)
The "Devil Without a Cause" seems to have changed his tune lately. As the Kid grows older his path seems to have led him to the feet of a "Rock n Roll Jesus." Has Kid Rock found the light, or just a false idol?

7: Another Animal - Another Animal (7/10)
Another Animal is a band that truly lives up to its name. Comprised of members of Godsmack, Ugly Kid Joe, and Dropbox, their musical pedigree is as established as their influences are varied.

8: Hurt - Volume II (8.3/10)
In the followup to last year's Volume I Hurt manages to make an album that sounds like everything you hear on alternative radio, and yet like nothing else you've ever heard.

9: Atreyu - Lead Sails Paper Anchor (6.1/10)
For their first major label album San Diego's Atreyu change things up with an expansive and experimental album that thrills and confuses simultaneously.

10: Chevelle - Vena Sera (5.8/10)
The fourth release from the Chicago Metal scene's answer to the Partridge family is solid, but unsurprising. Fans will appreciate this effort, but few fence-sitters are likely to become converts.
